Celebre Family Raises Over $13,000 for the FBC
On Saturday, October 20, 2018, family and friends of the Celebre’s came together in support of one very special little boy.
Nicholas Celebre was born with Usher syndrome, a condition that causes deaf-blindness and often balance issues. Born profoundly deaf, he was fortunate enough to get cochlear implants when he was 12 months old. He also suffers from balance issues severe enough that he is still not walking independently at 21 months. He will eventually lose his vision from an eye disorder associated with Usher Syndrome called retinitis pigmentosa (RP).
First he will lose his night vision, followed by his peripheral vision—all before the age of 10.
Faced with his uncertain future, Nick’s parents, Jennifer and Steve, knew that they wanted to do something. That’s when they came up with the idea of hosting “A Night for Nick,” a fundraiser in support of Fighting Blindness Canada (FBC).
On October 20th, their incredible family and friends packed the Crown and Lion English Pub in Brampton to enjoy live music, host a silent auction, and raise some much-needed funds. The Crown and Lion generously donated 25% of the night’s proceeds to the cause, which bumped the total raised by this awesome group to more than $13,000—all to fund research for vision treatments and cures.
“We are raising money for FBC in hopes of preventing Nick’s vision loss from happening,” said Jennifer. “We are committed to raising funds for a charity that is dedicated to finding causes, treatments, and cures for blinding eye diseases. We stand at the brink of new therapies that could save and even restore the vision of those going blind from eye diseases.”
We are so grateful to this family for their dedication and wonderful support. We couldn’t find cures without them!
