Our daughter Olivia was 5 years old when she was diagnosed with a blinding eye disease called retinitis pigmentosa (RP).
It was difficult for us to comprehend what that diagnosis really meant.
As a parent, you never get over the impact of learning that there is so much more to vision loss than losing your sight.
You understand immediately how it’s going to affect your child’s education, her relationships, and her employment. That’s overwhelming and it’s not easy.
We do, however, consider ourselves lucky because over the past 11 years, the Fighting Blindness Canada (FBC) community has taught us how to talk openly with Olivia about her blinding eye disease.
We’re grateful that there is so much more to FBC than just research.
FBC and their donors give us, and more importantly our daughter, hope.
