See What’s Possible

See beyond the moment everything changes. Because possibility is found in every discovery, every breakthrough, every story of strength. Together, we’re moving closer to a future where having a blinding eye disease no longer defines what’s possible.

Eight million Candians have a blinding eye disease.

For people facing vision loss, knowledge can feel distant and hope uncertain. Fighting Blindness Canada (FBC) is working to change that. By advancing research, providing expert information and fostering connections, FBC helps turn possibility into action.

Funding Research

Research has already made significant impacts on Canadians living with vision loss. New treatments have helped slow down the progress of blinding eye disease. In fact, thanks to research, 75 per cent of vision loss is preventable or treatable with early detection. But we know more needs to be done, and that we are on the verge of great discoveries.

Since our founding, FBC has invested more than $42 million in research, resulting in over 850 discoveries. We’ve helped researchers identify the genes that cause inherited eye diseases and contributed to groundbreaking clinical trials with the potential of restoring sight.

Resources

Research has already made significant impacts on Canadians living with vision loss. New treatments have helped slow down the progress of blinding eye disease, and more work remains to be done. While we fund the discovery of new treatments, we also provide programs for those living with vision loss so they can learn more about their eye disease, get answers to their questions and stay up to date on the latest developments in research.
