Fighting Blindness Canada empowers people living with vision loss by providing informational resources to help manage and navigate their vision health care, and by advocating to bring new sight-saving treatments and cures to Canadian clinics and hospitals.
DID YOU KNOW
Vision loss entails the highest direct health costs of any disease category in Canada – more than diabetes, mental disorders, cancer, respiratory diseases, arthritis, or cardiovascular diseases. Taking into account higher absenteeism, lower employment rates, decreased earning potential, premature retirement, depress, and premature death, one estimate suggests that the annual cost of vision loss in Canada could rise to as much as $30.3 billion by 2032.
That’s why it’s so important to champion the development and delivery of safe and effective treatments and cures for vision loss in Canada. On this page, you’ll find information about our advocacy efforts related to bringing new treatments and cures to Canadian clinics, and on developing common-sense vision care policies that work for the benefit of Canadians across the country.
